Welcome to your August community wrap-up! As winter starts to slowly wind down here in Western Australia, there is lots going on behind the scenes at MAWA. We have a busy few weeks ahead, filled with opportunities to shape the future of our association, have our voices heard, and access essential services.

The 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Our main event this month is our AGM, and your voice is vital!

Running an active, welcoming community center takes shared vision and dedication. Whether you’ve been a lifelong member or joined us more recently, the Annual General Meeting is the most effective way to stay informed, contribute your ideas, and support the heartbeat of our local Maltese community.

Come along to hear about what we’ve achieved over the past 12 months, review our plans for the upcoming year, and exercise your right to vote on key decisions.

Make Your Maltese Heritage Count on Census Night!

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, 11th August 2026!

National Census night is almost here, and it is a powerful opportunity for our community to stand up and be counted. When filling out your form, please remember to explicitly record your Maltese ancestry.

Why is this so important? Government departments, local councils, and funding bodies rely directly on Census data to allocate grants and support services. Every single box checked helps us secure funding for:

• Language & Cultural Programs
• Community Broadcasting on radio, TV and streaming services
• Senior Services & Heritage Preservation, funding events, gatherings, and support networks that keep our tradition strong across generations.

Did you know? If you or your family members have a mixed background, you don’t have to choose just one—you can list Maltese alongside your other ancestries!

Let’s ensure our vibrant community remains visible, recognized, and supported across WA. Grazzi ħafna for doing your part!

Consular Visit Update: Deputy High Commissioner’s Visit Postponed

We have an important operational update regarding the upcoming consular visit to Perth by Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Mark Anthony Abela.

Originally scheduled for late July, the visit has been postponed to late August / early September 2026 to allow more time to reach the required number of appointment bookings.

Register Your Interest Today

To ensure this visit is confirmed and consular staff travel to Perth, we must meet a minimum number of registrations. If you require assistance with:

• Maltese Citizenship applications
• Legal documents requiring formal authorization, witnessing, or signing by consular officials

Please register your details as soon as possible via the official link on our Facebook page or by reaching out to the committee directly.

Important Notice Regarding Passports: Please be aware that due to ongoing technical issues, no passport applications or renewals can be processed during this upcoming visit. We appreciate your ongoing patience as consular staff work through these limitations.
